Putting people and nature together

From the beginning, Couran Cove Resort's motto has been 'As Nature would have it'. But it is a tourist resort–a commercial business that needs to attract visitors to survive. Ron Clarke knew the resort's size could work for it instead of against it. Its size and resources allowed the resort to create new solutions to environmental problems that a smaller project could not have afforded.

Making guests and the environment welcome

Couran Cove Resort provides comfortable facilities for its guests. But it makes even more of an effort to protect its surroundings.

Buildings were designed to fit in with the landscape, instead of the other way around. The eco-cabins are a good example. Their near-invisibility in the environment is not just a coincidence–a colourist noted the seasonal changes of the surrounding plant life and created a colour scheme to reflect it so that buildings blend into their surroundings.
