Is this a joke?

Couran Cove Resort can accommodate hundreds of people. And people–human beings–are one of the largest animals on the planet. (It's easy to name a dozen or even twenty larger animals, but there are tens of millions of smaller ones. We're definitely up there.) No-one would argue that you could introduce, for instance, two hundred cats into an island ecosystem and expect it to be unchanged. Yet we happily overlook ourselves–potentially much more damaging creatures.

One of the ongoing problems the resort has to deal with is keeping the visitors from destroying the environment they've come to see. A system of boardwalks keeps feet away from the delicate sand dunes and rainforest floor. Carefully designed living systems–including paths, plumbing and waste disposal–are also needed to keep these giant lumbering creatures from doing too much damage.
